This book won't just sit on your shelf.

This is the best book on drawing that I have seen. I have read through the book several times and now I am going through page by page and practicing each step. His instructions are clear and easy to follow with drawings to help illustrate each step.

It's Just That No One Taught You How

I took oil painting classes from Bill Martin 40 years ago and still think of him as the best art teacher I ever had. Why? Because he had a knack for laying out an organized and readily understandable structure...step by step. One of those steps is drawing. Don't think you can't draw; it's just that no one taught you the basics. How wonderful that Bill Martin wrote it all down...that his gift for teaching lives on. Plus he was such a good guy. Now all you have to do is practice, practice, practice.

Still Relevant in 2003!!

but the lessons on those pages are taught with such clarity they will stick with you and help when you go further with your talents into areas like colored pencil, watercolor, pen and ink, acrylics or even oils.
The lessons include things like perspective, a lesson taught in just about every book on art written today. It seems so many books cover this topic because it is such a hard topic to teach - notice I say teach and not learn. If it was easy to teach then more of us would learn it and would not have such a hard time with the concept. Bill Martin has touched something in his lessons on perspective, at least for me, and I will never have the same difficulty with perspective again. At least if I do in the future, I will have this little gem to pick up and refer to! He does not cover this topic quickly, but goes into it slowly and covers it quite completely, as he does most difficult topics. I will no sell the four or five books on my shelves devoted to perspective, books purchased to help clarify a topic once so unclear.
The only downside about his book is the section on color theory, which could be much more indepth. There is only a small chapter covering it at the end, almost as though it was an afterthought. It would have been great to see Mr. Martin tackle the important and often difficult topic of color with the same skill he had handled perspective and so many others in this great little book!

Probably the best Yii2 book, I've read so far

I'm one of the reviewers of this book, but I'm writing this review purely as a customer and book reader. I'm a Yii developer with 5+ years of experience.

I have read this book thoroughly and I must admit that this is an outstanding piece of work. It targets a little bit more experienced Yii2 developers and thus does not focus on complete basics. Instead, it provides detailed information on most important topics, that covers application development.

Book consists of thirteen chapters and nearly 350 pages. These pages are full of important details, tips, tricks and a large number of useful examples.

Chapters are ordered from configuration, through key application development, to additional tasks around application life-cycle.

It includes:

- introductory topics (composer configuration and console commands or applications),
- basic application development (DAO, queries, data providers, AR, modules, widgets, assets and helpers),
- request life-cycle (authentication, authorization, routing, responses and events),
- advanced topics (RESTful applications, translation and internationalization),
- application life-cycle (testing, debugging, fixing performance and security).

Every aspect is discussed in details, supported by many examples and useful tips. Chapters are written in the way, that both beginners and advanced developers can benefit from them.

I can strongly advice anyone, who is around Yii2 development, to purchase this book. Covered material is vast and written in a very well form. I would most certainly bought this book, just as a Yii2 developer, without any remarks to the fact, that I was reviewing it during writing process.

I have been searching for long time one big comprehensive knowledge well for Yii2. Ive tried vide tutorials and other books but this one gave me everything what i needed to start using this framework.

This book will lead you from installation to finished product. You will read about all Yii2 "things" like console, Active Record, modules and widgets, authentication, internationalization and how to build RESTful application.

What will be missing for your specific project you'll find yourself as you will be by now fluent Yii2 developer.

Hi,
I'm a software architect from Germany. There are not many books out there for Yii2. It (the framework) competes with Symfony and Laravel, also two of my favourites. In this book all relevant topics are covered, also the tricky ones like "authenticating and authorizing users" and "database handling with DAO" and REST, another hype out there. Also the real world is there with debugging, performance and security. To get an good overview I would recommend this book aside the online documentation itself.

What is the role of music in advertising? When the music swells as a mother cradles her dying child in a film is it the music of the moment which captures our attention and emotions? These are the type of questions dealt with by Nicholas Cook in this intriguing journey into music's role in multimedia.

For something to be a medium does not mean that it is 'just' a medium. Cook rightly asserts that "the idea that anything can be 'just' a medium has... look precarious since the days of Marshall McLuhan"(pg. 261). Rather Cook upholds the value of the medium in the construction of meaning: "my argument [is] predicated on the assumption that media such as music, texts, and moving pictures do not just communicate meaning, but participate actively in its construction. They 'mediate' it." (pg. 261). According to Cook meaning in multimedia lies in the encounter between music and other media (pg. 270). If these ideas interest you, read this book.

About the Author
Ray Sinnott's varied career, mainly in design and development, began with several major companies including Dupont and John Brown. The main areas covered within these appointments were: Gas Production and Distribution, Nuclear Energy, Elastomers and Textile fibres. After his career in industry he joined the Chemical Engineering Department, University of Wales Swansea in 1970, specialising in teaching process and plant design, and other engineering practice subjects. The first edition of Chemical Engineering Design (Coulson and Richardson's Vol 6) was published in 1983. Subsequent editions have been published at approximately 5 year intervals. Ray Sinnott retired from full time teaching in 1995 but has maintained close contact with the engineering profession.

Chemical Engineering in Great Britain.

This set of books is a good indication of the British view of what is the discipline of chemical engineering: "Momentum, Heat, and Mass Transfer"; "Separation Processes"; "Chemical Reaction Engineering"; and "Process Design". The first two volumes of "Coulson and Richardson" were initially part of the McGraw-Hill Series in Chemical Engineering in 1954.
