Discover Your True Potential

Contrary to what some have said in comedy routines and on talk radio, everyone has a brain. And in most instances, this brain is not utilized to its full potential. The power of the brain is tremendous and many individuals, although they often do not realize it, have incredible untapped potential that could easily catapult them to fulfilling their greatest dreams, if only they would take advantage of what nature has given them.
Awakening the Genie within is all about utilizing this underused power that exists inside every one of us and author Bettye Johnson is one person who practices what she preaches. She is a student of Ramtha, which is a school of enlightenment, and she awakened her own genie at the ripe old age of forty, completely changing her life from then forward. People awaken at different moments, but the point is that the potential for greatness is right there, inside every human mind, just wanting for you to take advantage.
Much of what this book talks about has been said by other authors many times and in many different books. Thousands of self- help books exist that are intended to help the individual reach his/her true potential, so this book doesn't earn many points for originality overall. However, this book does offer a few interesting points that make it a little different from the average self- help guide. One of the more unusual topics it discusses is the idea that a person can fend off illnesses and other health problems through positive attitude alone. What the author presents is very unscientific, but she is convinced that whether or not you are sick is due in large part to the thoughts in your head. The right attitude, according to the book, can help to eliminate many common illnesses.
As for the writing, this book is average overall and many readers will likely experience the same frustration that I felt as they traverse the pages. First, some of the sentence structure is weak. You can figure out what the book is trying to say, but it could have been stated more effectively with different words. The lists included in the book could also have been presented better. They look like they were downloaded directly from a word document without any editing. Then, there is the inconsistency with the quotations. Some chapters end with a quote; others do not. Some consistency would be nice.
This book is philosophical and attempts to inspire, but it only succeeds to a point. The focus on enlightenment is certainly a good one, and self- improvement/self respect is certainly an idea that is positive and can benefit anyone. But one thing that many will have trouble with is the book's conclusions. The idea that you are what you think you are and that your brain is capable of making many incredible things reality with the right programming is a bit much for me. I can agree that many things can be achieved with a change in attitude, but I don't think positive attitude alone is going to lead to great things for everyone. Often, it takes more than that.
This is a decent book overall and it will appeal to spiritual/philosophical types more than anyone else. I liked it more the more I read and while I don't think I will be enrolling in the school of enlightenment anytime soon, I can see how this type of training could prove to be an eye- opening experience for many and I can see how this book could lead some people to change their lives for better. For these reasons, this book deserves a recommendation. It could have been written better, but it still has some good points to make and helpful advice to dispense.

Awaken your own genie

Bettye Johnson believes that each of us has a genie within that can grant all our wishes. Awakening the Genie Within attempts to show us how to access this power.
The teacher, Ramtha, channeled through JZ Knight, and his School of Enlightenment have provided guidance to the author over the last twenty years. This book reveals some of the wisdom she has learned from him. In it, she touches on topics such as the law of attraction, the powers of the mind, healing, love and abundance. These are enhanced by Johnson's own experiences.
Although there is a lot of good material in this book, the organization is a bit haphazard, and the book has numerous typos, leading the reader to believe it may have been put together hastily. The author's experiences could also have been supplemented with other people's, giving a broader view on the subjects covered.
If this is the first book you've read on discovering your own power to manifest your life, it provides a basic framework that will encourage further reading. If you're already fluent in these studies, this book will give you only one person's experiences in following these principles successfully. The inspirational stories will leave you feeling good about life, eager to create positive changes for yourself.

A pleasure to read

Bettye Johnson reminds me so much of that wacky, eccentric great aunt that seems to exist in almost every family. You know the one, everyone talks about her like she's a little off her rocker, but yet, deep down, everyone wants to spend a little "alone" time with her because she's just so darn fun to be around! And, if you'll open your mind up a little and listen to what she is saying, some of it makes perfect sense!
Well, dear old aunt Bettye wrote a book and called it AWAKENING THE GENIE WITHIN: A JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY. Now I'm the first to admit I'm a die-hard conservative Christian minister, Dallas Theological Seminary and all that, but I'm also the first to tell you I don't question someone else's faith. If Bettye found enlightenment through the Ramtha and his School of Enlightenment, then so be it. I believe there are many avenues to take us to the answers we seek and those roads don't always look the same.
This was an enjoyable read. Some may scoff at some of the conclusions that were reached, but keep an open mind and remember that Ms. Johnson's path may have been a little different than yours. That's okay. It doesn't make her wrong, only different. The point is, she has traveled a long journey and has gained wisdom, which she has chosen to share with the rest of us. Absorb her gift of wisdom in the way it was meant and enjoy the ride.
